Botanical Name: Phaseolus coccineus
Botanical Name: Phaseolus coccineus
This is a perennial bean that will remerge each Spring. They are extra tender with string-less pods. Pick at regular and frequent intervals to increase harvest. In dry weather softly spray flowers with a fine mist as this can help pods to set. A heritage variety bred from the popular Scarlet Runner. Attractive bright red blooms develop into long pods, these pods are extra tender and virtually stringless.
Plant Height: 1.8m
How To Grow | Sow Spring and Summer, all year round in warm areas, 25mm (1”) deep in damp soil – avoid watering for a day or two afterwards. Sow 15cm (6”) apart, allowing 1m (3’) between rows. Ensure the danger of frosts has passed, and protect plants from wind. Water and mulch well during hot and dry weather. Support with canes, netting or trellis. Runner Beans develop an extensive root system so will be at their best in well dug and manured soil. Seedlings emerge 7-10 days. |
