Kohlrabi Olivia F1
A two-in-one vegetable with tasty roots and leaves. The name comes from German and literally translates as ‘cabbage turnip’, but this undervalues its excellent juicy crispness and light flavour, which is slightly sweet and milder than both a cabbage and a turnip.
How To Grow
Sow seeds 6mm (¼in) deep in rows spaced 30cm (12in) apart. Firm down, lightly cover and keep moist. Sow direct into the growing position in full sun. Thin plants to 15cm (6in) apart when large enough. Water well and fertilise every 2-3 weeks.

"Brassica oleracea var. gongylodes" Kohlrabi Chips
- 4 kohlrabi bulbs
- Olive oil
- Ground cumin (or any other spice)
- Preheat the oven to 220°C.
- Peel and slice the kohlrabi bulbs into chip form.
- Toss chips with a bit of olive oil and spread onto a baking sheet. Sprinkle with a little salt and bake for 20 minutes.
- Toss lightly then return to oven for a further 20 minutes or until golden.
- Remove from oven and sprinkle with a little salt and your chosen spice.
